MIDAMERICON II ANNOUNCES 2016 HUGO AWARD FINALISTS

Kansas City, Missouri, USA — The Finalists for the 2016 Hugo Awards and John W. Campbell for Best New Writer were announced on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at 12 Noon CDT. The announcement was made live to social media, including Twitter and Facebook accounts of MidAmericCon II, and via the MidAmeriCon II website.
4032 valid nominating ballots (4015 electronic and 17 paper) were received and counted for the members of the 2015, 2016, and 2017 World Science Fiction Conventions.
The final ballot to select this year’s winners will open in mid-May 2016, and will be open to all Attending, Young Adult, and Supporting Members of MidAmeriCon II. The winners of the 2016 Hugo Awards will be announced at a highlighted formal ceremony at the convention, on the evening of Saturday, August 20.
The Hugo Awards are the premier award in the science fiction genre, honoring science fiction literature and media as well as the genre’s fans. The Awards were first presented at the 1953 World Science Fiction Convention in Philadelphia (PhilCon II), and they have continued to honor sciene fiction and fantasy notables for well over 60 years.
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic has been nominated for 1 Hugo Award in 2016. It was nominated for the “Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form)” category. Other nominees include: Doctor Who, Grimm, Jessica Jones, and Supernatural. Fans of science fiction have voted on specific episodes for the category, and it’s the two-part Pony episode “The Cutie Map” Parts 1 and 2 that have gained the Hugo nod.
